Brian – can you get in touch about this route? I’m about to submit a Grinder that intersected Lake George and I want to make sure we don’t overlap. Thanks.
Shane, I sent the route to your email.
Sweet! Brian can you send me a gpx file? Or how do I get it off map my ride?
Aaron, two options
Shoot me your email (to behnbrian@yahoo.com)and I can it email it to you
On the bottom of the map in Map My Ride ( http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/66958414 ) there is a button that says “export map data” and you can choose to export as a GPX file.
I’ll put it up on the site as well, but it might take a while as I am new to wordpress.
Thanks Brian!
proposed route change:
In speaking with a few people they have raised some questions about the midland single track. An option that I am considering and will throw it out there is moving the start/finish to salida. The big loop stays the same but the first and last 10 miles are on a dirt road with a 2000 foot gain / loss.

thoughts?
Brian
For some reason I can’t view the route, seems like it’s semi private?
Oops, fixed.
I’d prefer a Salida start/finish for purely selfish reasons since then I wouldn’t have to drive to the start. That being said I’ve ridden my cross bike on the midland and really it’s fine. I was off my bike here and there but no big deal at all. I do run a pretty fat cross tire. Either way I think it looks like a great ride.
I will leave the route change to a salida start / finish open for commentary unti
The 31st and post the “official route” and start / finish on 4/1/2012.
Brian
Official start / finish will be in Salida. Date and time are the same – 630 am departure from Cafe dawn. Bathroom are I will change to web page as well

I’m riding over to Salida from the Springs tomorrow and may try your route change through Cotopaxi, but I really prefer the route on the Ute trail and scream down 175 to Salida.
Jim, let me know what you think about the route.
Fire Box rd is pretty bumpy from the cars flying down as is cr 2 but what road in Colorado isn’t. Maybe the snow and rain we are getting will help. Brian I spoke with Rita in Guffey, she will be out of town on the ride weekend. She would like you to call her and said she will have Her helper stay late for us.
Jim,
I’ll call her. What did you think of the rest of the ride?
Brian, the rest of the route from Cotopaxi on is fine, a few narrow shoulders and railroad grade is shared with campers and fisherman so some traffic to contend with. i’ve ridden the railroad grade before but usually during the week.
I left Rita’s around 5:30 and it was a late night into Salida. Better bring a good set of lights and extra battery. Luckily I had a “Super Moon” behind me so I didn’t need a lot of light. The sun goes down around 7:00 – 7:30 in the river canyon so it gets darker sooner FYI.

* If you have a real reason, such as a family emergency, death in the family, car breakdown, etc. let me know and I will remove you…otherwise you can redeem yourself next year.
I’m a slacker, wife had to work so no transpo/ride home. So I’m playing the redemption song in y head right now. Looks like there was some great times posted, I’m sure everyone enjoyed the route.
Thanks Brian for putting on the ride and see ya next year.
Awesome course with fun people…the hills from mile 103 to the top before dropping into Cotopaxi were soul crushers…thanks to Eric, Aaron and Shane for being great partners all day. Ask any of us, for now the true soul of the gravel grinder has been revealed to each!
Thanks for hosting the ride Brian, I predict that this one will catch on…big time.
Super fun course, had a blast. Felt Excellent at Cotopaxi, just didn’t feel like the flat-ish finish on the ss. Thanks for the group ride, Andrew, Shane and Aaron. And thanks to Aaron for making the route finding a non-issue. I’ll be back again. Good route choice Brian
Eric
Wonderful loop! High lonesome county, big rollers, a pocket full of warm potatoes from Rita’s, and great folks!
Andrew- thanks for the Chamois Butt’r and embro.
Everyone should check out the write up on Shane did on his blog
